Black Weir Park ~ MARCH 2024 Outing

MARCH OUTING ~ BLACK WEIR PARK ~ SUNDAY 24th MARCH.

The first outing for 2024 will be this coming Sunday, 24th March, and will be the outing we planned for February but were forced to cancel.  Instead of a walk or drive, we will be doing a bit of ‘citizen science’ – we will check out the freshwater macroinvertebrates along the edge of Ross River just below the Black Weir. Be prepared to get your feet wet! There will also be plants, birds, and who-knows-what other animals to note.

Meeting time and place:  At 9:00 am, at the south-east corner (the most down-stream point) of the Weir State School carpark (592 Ross River Rd, Kirwan). Black Weir Park can be accessed from this point via a bitumen road that leads off the bike-track, down the riverbank, and into the park. The park has no facilities apart from two small shelter sheds.

Transport:  People will provide their own transport to the meeting place, but please email us if you need a lift.

What to bring:  Good shoes for wading, morning tea, *WATER*, gear for birdwatching and photography, HAT, sunscreen, insect repellent (NOTE: legs coated in sunscreen and/or insecticide are NOT good for aquatic environments!) and whatever else you think appropriate for an area with no facilities. A hand lens/magnifying glass could also be useful.
