UPCOMING OUTING ~ PALMETUM ~ SUNDAY 27th APRIL.
The outing will be this coming Sunday, 27th April, and will be a walk through the Palmetum. The variety of habitats that have been established in the Palmetum provide for a diversity of animal life along with the great range of palms and other plants we can explore.
Attendees at our first outing for 2025 will recall that we adjourned to the Palmetum when we found the road closed to our intended destination (Mt Stuart, and the road is still closed!) and we walked through the rainforest area. We will explore a different area this time.
Meeting place & time: We will meet at 9:30 am* at the Palmetum Savannah shelter*, the large roofed shelter (approx 12m x 5m) located near the far end of the lagoon. To get there, enter the Palmetum via the main gate then turn right and walk on the gravel path behind the tea rooms to meet the concrete path through the Savannah Zone, and follow that path around to the Savannah shelter (see red line in the attached map). In dry conditions it’s possible to veer off the path and take a shortcut across the grass but, with all the rain we’ve had, that route could well be squelchy!
*Members will note that the 2025 AGM is being held in the same location at 9:00 am. We anticipate that the AGM will be finished by 9:30 am.
Transport: People will provide their own transport.
What to bring: WATER, snacks (if patronising the Tea Rooms doesn’t appeal), shoes good for walking on potentially wet ground, hat, sunscreen, insect repellant, bird-watching gear.
