AUGUST OUTING ~ PINE CREEK, FORESTRY ROAD ~ SUNDAY 20th AUGUST.
On this coming Sunday, 20th AUGUST, we will explore a section of Pine Creek, a small creek that flows east from the Paluma Range to merge with Bluewater Creek at a point south of the Bluewater residential area. We expect to find the creek flowing reasonably well and potentially a good place for a dip as well as checking out plants and wildlife.
Meeting time: At 9:00 am – allow 20-25 min for the drive from the northern outskirts of Townsville.
Meeting place: We will meet at Bluewater Park Rest Area at the turnoff left from the Bruce Highway, just after crossing Bluewater Creek. We will move off from there at 9:15 am and proceed up Forestry Rd to the outing site, which is 1.7km past the boundary of Paluma Range National Park – the bitumen road stops at that boundary now, but the gravel road is good as far as we want to go.
Transport: People will provide their own transport, but there isn’t a lot of parking space at the outing site beside Forestry Road – car-pooling from the Bluewater Park rest area is advised. Please email us if you can offer someone else a lift, or need a lift yourself.
What to bring: Good shoes (and walking poles?) for walking on the creek bed/bank, which is rocky and bound to be slippery as well. Morning tea, *WATER*, gear for birdwatching, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, swimming costume (maybe!) and whatever else you think appropriate for an area with no facilities.
Please email us if you are planning to come (so we know who to expect at the meeting point at Bluewater park) or if you have any questions.
