SEPTEMBER OUTING ~ PINNACLES NP, GUMLOW SECTION ~ SUNDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER.
This coming Sunday, 22nd September, we will explore the vegetation and wildlife in the circular section of Pinnacles National Park, accessible via Gumlow Rd at Bohle Plains. At about 1km from its intersection with Hervey Range Rd, Gumlow Rd crosses the Little Bohle River and around 1km further along there’s an access road west into the Recreation Reserve adjacent to the National Park. Gumlow Rd has a bitumen surface except for where it crosses the Little Bohle River.
All roads in the Reserve and the National Park are gravel but would be accessible to most conventional vehicles. However, if we have enough high clearance vehicles on Sunday, we will consider car-pooling and using only those vehicles on the gravel roads. We will enter the area at the Gumlow Recreation Reserve access road, proceed into the National Park, take the track past the waterhole, and exit the park via the southernmost access point (see map below).
Meeting place: We will meet at the corner of Gumlow Road and Hervey Range Road, which is 5.9km from the Thuringowa Dve/Hervey Range Rd intersection at the Willows Shopping Centre, or 2.2km from where the Ring Road crosses Hervey Range Road.
Meeting time: We will meet at 9:00 am at the Gumlow Road/Hervey Range Road intersection.
Transport: People will provide their own transport to the meeting place, but please email us if you can offer someone else a lift, or need a lift yourself.
What to bring: Morning tea, good walking shoes, *WATER*, gear for birdwatching and photography, HAT, sunscreen, insect repellent and whatever else you think appropriate for an area with no facilities.
** Please email us if you are planning to come (so we know who to expect at the meeting point on Sunday) or if you have any questions. **
