On Sunday 26th July, we will explore the Broadwater Forest Park in the Abergowrie State Forest, 47km north-west of Ingham. People who wish to camp at Broadwater beforehand can book their spot and obtain further information at this Parks and Forests webpage.
Meeting place: People travelling from Townsville on Sunday 26th July can meet at the carpark on the corner of Townsville Road and McIlwraith Street in Ingham. We can organise car-pooling there, if desired. At 9:15 am, we will set off in convoy to Elphinstone Rd/Hawkins Creek Rd intersection and then take the gravel road (Broadwater Forest Rd) to Broadwater Forest Park. The unsealed road can be rough but is accessible by conventional vehicles.
Meeting time: At 9:00 am in Ingham – allow about 1hr 15 min for the drive from the northern outskirts of Townsville. Current roadworks are making the trip slower than usual and a little more hazardous, so PLEASE BE WATCHFUL OF CHANGED ROAD CONDITIONS & SPEED ZONES.
Transport: People will provide their own transport, but please email us if you can offer someone else a lift, or need a lift yourself.
What to bring: Morning tea/lunch, *WATER*, birdwatching and walking gear (tracks may be rough underfoot), hat, insect repellent, and whatever else you might need. We anticipate returning to Townsville before 6pm.
Please email us if you are planning to come (so we know who to expect at the meeting point on Sunday) or if you have any questions.
